Assembly Bill 371

On his last day in office, Governor Corzine vetoed, without comment, Assembly Bill 371. If passed, the Bill would have extended from twelve to fifteen the number of years a school bus could be used to transport pupils. The Bill was described by its sponsors as a way to help school districts save money by keeping certain buses in service longer, delaying the point at which new buses would have to be bought. Transit type buses whose GVW exceed 25,000 pounds were not included in this legislation.

The Bill passed the Legislature unanimously. The Legislature that passed it, however, has ended its term, so the veto can not be overridden and is final. In order to be reconsidered, the Bill must be reintroduced in both houses and go through the Committee process. Both the Assembly and the Senate would have to vote on the Bill again.
