JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:
-Develops & administers the district’s transportation program to meet the needs of the students and district
-Ensures compliance with all laws, regulations and board policies related to school transportation and safety
-Recruits, trains and supervises all transportation staff
-Proficient with Google and Microsoft computer systems and applications
-Provides a safety education program for all permanent and substitute school bus drivers and school bus aides bi-annually as required by law
-Prepares and administers the transportation budget efficiently
-Prepares District Report of Transported Resident Students annually
-School Transportation Supervisor’s Certificate or grandfathered with 11 or more years of experience
-Valid Class “B” NJ CDL w/passenger endorsement preferred
-Proficiency with computer applications including VersaTrans, Google G Suite, Microsoft Office (data bases & spreadsheets) preferred
-Familiarity with the Geotab GPS navigation system preferred
-Excellent and professional communication, organizational and problem solving skills
-Demonstrated skills in managing staff, route scheduling, fleet maintenance and budgeting
-Knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to transportation as well as district policies and regulations
-Current residency in NJ, approved residency waiver, or candidate agrees to obtain residency within one year of employment
-Criminal and employment background clearance

WARREN TOWNSHIP SCHOOLS
The Coordinator will ensure that the district complies with all Federal and State laws and best practices concerning student transportation and will manage the general affairs of the department.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES – INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
–Conform to all state laws and regulations regarding school transportation personnel.
–Maintain safety standards in conformance with state and insurance regulations and develop a program of preventive safety.
–Recruit, train and supervise all transportation personnel and make recommendations on their employment, transfer, release, etc.
–Develop and administer the contractual transportation program to meet all the requirements of the daily instructional program and extracurricular activities.
–Maintain all district owned equipment and develop plans for preventive maintenance including vehicles not used for transportation.
–Act as liaison with parents for concerns and special requests.
–Drive an assigned route as warranted.
–Design busing routes with maps and lists for various bus routes for all district transportation.
–Prepare transportation reimbursements for eligible students attending private schools.
–Arrange and schedule repairs on vehicles. Schedule safety inspections four times a year as required by law. Inspect and fill out safety reports for all vehicles.
–Be available by telephone no later than 5:30 a.m. on school days for transportation and staffing issues.
–Other duties as assigned for the efficient operation of the school district to increase the effectiveness and reduce costs to the ultimate benefit of the educational program.
Qualifications: Valid NJ DMV CDL minimum Class C license with S & P endorsements required, Transportation Supervisor Certification preferred.

Excellent driving record and a valid CDL Class B License with passenger, school bus and air brake endorsements
Successful completion of a State Defensive Driving Course

Be the primary contact person for all district bus drivers and bus aides; Assist in scheduling bus drivers & aides; coordinate driver/aide substitutions and/or route modifications.
Assist in the administration of the contractual transportation program to meet all the requirements of the daily instructional program and extracurricular activities.
Maintain all district owned equipment & develop plans for preventative maintenance, including vehicles not used for transportation.
Act as liaison with parents for concerns and special requests.
Assist in the design of busing routes w/ maps & lists for various bus routes for all district transportation.
Prepare transportation reimbursements for eligible students attending private schools.
Be available by telephone from 6:00 AM for drivers/aides needing emergency subs on school days and at hours necessary to accommodate district needs.
Inspect and fill out safety reports for all vehicles.

Perform other duties as assigned for efficient operation of the transportation office.

• Prepare bidding documents and process all information required to place routes for bid
• Negotiate contracts and ensure contract compliance
• Prepare and submit budget requests and monitor expenditure of funds in cooperation with the Business Administrator
• Prepare appropriate state/district reports
• Recommend for appointment, assign duties, supervise and evaluate the performance of employees as assigned
• Be available during early morning hours and on scheduled holidays as need arises
